Energy-efficient boiler upgrades delivered with minimal disruption
Arcade was commissioned to deliver boiler swap-outs across two sites in Bedfordshire: Maple Tree Primary School and Bedford Square Community Centre.
The requirement was clear: complete essential heating plant upgrades while keeping disruption to a minimum. Across both sites, three new top-of-the-range boilers replaced old, ageing units, including boilers that had been condemned.
As part of this safety-critical work, each boiler required a new flue system to comply with Building Regulations guidance.
At Maple Tree Primary School, work mainly took place during school holidays. At other times, heating was required to keep the building comfortable and operational. New boiler systems and pipework were installed and connected to new building management system (BMS) panels, enabling remote monitoring and control of the heating system.
At Bedford Square Community Centre, which houses both a library and a community health centre, new boilers were installed to improve energy efficiency. Given the live environment of both facilities, a temporary boiler was installed during the works so heating and hot water could continue as normal, avoiding unnecessary disruption or downtime. The temporary boiler ran on an isolated system until the upgrades were complete and the existing plant could be safely swapped out.
The upgrades were designed to improve reliability and energy efficiency, supporting reduced energy use and lower carbon emissions.
