Paint shop ventilation for GE Dowty
Large-scale temperature and humidity control for industrial paint booths
Full design, supply and installation of ventilation systems for 14 large-scale paint booths.
The sizable paint booths are used for painting and baking aviation propellers that require a wide ambient temperature range for each stage of the process. An ultra efficient heating and ventilation system was fully designed in Revit to ensure capacity and safety, before being successfully installed on site.
Key challenges:
- Required temperature in each booth ranged from 23°C – 85°C
- Health and safety requirements for using hazardous materials
- Immense size of booths necessitated large ductwork
- Installation required during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown
Solutions:
- Revit-designed system included gas pipework alongside the ventilation system
- Installed 3x trailer-mounted carbon filters and a bespoke inlet plenum filter
- Supplied and installed 3x 20m high, 1200mm diameter stainless steel exhaust
ducts with supporting steelwork and a mezzanine platform for exhaust duct
sampling - ‘Key Worker’ status was granted allowing us to work on site within Covid-safe
guidelines
