Decarbonising schools to support future generations
State-funded school decarbonisation delivered with Arcade expertise
Scope of works:
The London Borough of Barnet asked Arcade to help them further to securing grant funding as part of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS). The scheme aims to reduce CO2 emissions as well as reduce the reliance on fossil fuels in favour of greener alternatives.
Schools across the country received grants to replace their existing gas-fired boilers. The highly experienced Arcade team replaced these obsolete boilers at schools within the Barnet borough, supplying and installing brand-new heat pumps and all associated pipework.
Key challenges:
- A live school environment with children on site called for strict adherence to safety and safeguarding protocols
- All services, such as hot water, had to remain available during the installation period to allow the school to operate
Solutions:
- Installed heat pumps and associated pipework, replacing old, and often out-of-date, gas-fired boilers.
- Seamlessly linked the existing PLC controller to the new system to minimise the cost of new equipment
- Worked closely with the DNO (District Network Operator) to ensure that services remained live and accessible at all times.
