Keeping a Bottling Plant in hot water

Designing and installing a circular energy loop system to recycle excess heat, reduce energy usage and create capacity for business growth.

The Wenlock Water bottling plant washes, sterilises and fills the large bottles used in water coolers. The process calls for a lot of hot water and creates a lot of wasted heat. This presented the opportunity for Arcade to use their specialist knowledge to capture and reuse this waste energy.

Key challenges:

  • Installing a system that recycles ~90% of the waste energy
  • The need to reduce the business’s carbon footprint and energy consumption
  • Operating in a live food factory that is active 24/7

Solutions:

  • Working in a hygienic and covid-safe manner, the team utilised specialist knowledge to efficiently capture and recycle the waste energy
  • A smart control system manages the legacy boiler to ensure that no energy is wasted.
  • The engineers also installed a pasteurising unit that uses the recycled heat for steaming and cooling. This will allow the business to grow their business.
